One of the most important aesthetic factors of a flush door is its facing material. All our door ranges can incorporate veneer, laminate, or a combination of both to create striking effects. More cost effective finishes can be achieved with paint, however the initial savings must be off-set against on-going mainainance costs.

Veneers

Wood veneers are obtained by peeling or slicing a timber log to produce very thin (0.7mm) layers of wood in strips of a consistent thickness. These strips of veneer are then ‘matched’ to one another and glued or stitched edge to edge to form larger sheets or ‘veneer lay-ons’. The veneer matcher’s job is highly skilled, and veneer lay-ons can be co-ordinated to match across pairs of doors or through over-panels.

Below is a small selection of our more popular veneer species. Our veneered doors are supplied pre-finished with high quality clear lacquer.

Laminates

High Pressure Laminate (HPL) is manufactured by fusing multiple layers of impregnated paper under high pressure and temperature to create a hard wearing, durable and hygienic surfacing material. Laminate door facings are selected because of their durability and vast range of colours and patterns, including wood grains. A laminate facing requires little maintenance once installed and its durability ensures longevity.

It is usual for hardwood lippings to be exposed to laminate faced door-edges as this helps prevent edge damage to the facing material.

Laminates are available in a huge range of finishes; from plain colours through wood grains to patterned. The range of laminate facing material is ever-growing – a fantastic resource for the creation of doors unique to your project.
